Rhapsody
for solo cello
Instrumentation: Cello
Duration: 7:30
Rhapsody for Solo Cello is built largely on the juxtaposition of contrasting musical elements. Each of the three main thematic sections varies considerably in character, and material within those sections highlights contrasts in texture, harmony, and melodic line. Another important aspect of this piece is the idea of interruption, which manifests itself both in the form of short, sporadic disruptions as well as in sudden, drastic shifts in character and gesture.
